Preacher Jack: The man of many talents

John Lincoln Coughlin, the man who goes by the stage name of Preacher Jack. He was born in 1942 and grew up on Virginia. He currently lives and performs in Boston Massachusetts. He taught himself to draw and to play the piano. He has achieved some minor success playing the piano including performing with George Thorogood. He likes to draw in his spare time.

Above is a picture of the man himself performing on the piano.

Although, he is mainly known for playing the piano, because my dad grew up knowing him, he got a look into his artistic side. He drew mostly people and sometimes buildings. Almost all of his drawings were done in only pen and ink. He had a tendancy to draw famous people such as George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. In addition to presidents he also drew more pop famous stars as well.

Personally, I've always been very drawn to his drawings even as a child. I still have yet to meet Preacher Jack, but he is a great friend of my dad's. I love the deatail and efortlessness you see when you look at his art. I especially like the media of just pen and ink. Because of the way value is created by adding lines over and over and again and less value is just white lines or light scribbles. I find it increadible that someone can have the ability to draw people and make them look so realistic with just a pen and some paper.

Definately, my favorite drawing by Preacher Jack is one he did of my dad when he was 14.
